DESCRIPTION:

Depart on a full day’s scenic adventure along the ‘Four Passes Route’.  Take the N2 to Elgin and Grabouw to the heart of the apple industry and then cross back over the highlight of the day - the Franschhoek Pass - into the winelands. Franschhoek is a unique ‘French’ town named after the French Huguenot’s who were settled in this valley by the Dutch in 1688.  Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in the country is settled in the heart of the historic winelands and is renowned for its Cape Dutch architecture, water furrows along oak-lined streets and its university.  The scenic town of Paarl, is set at the foot of the second-largest granite outcrop in the world. The 12-km long Main Road, the longest in the country, is a trip down memory lane. The buildings lining Main Road present a mosaic of the most superb examples of Cape Dutch, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco architecture. Tulbagh in the Witzenberg mountain valley is also famous for its Cape Dutch architecture and wines. Riebeek Kasteel is a small, scenic town set in the fertile Riebeek Valley in the Swartland wine area.  The area has become popular due to the varied wine estates, artists and olive groves.
