Sir Lowry’s Pass is the gateway to the Overberg and the Eden Coastal Region from Cape Town. This road, built in 1958 opened up speedy access to the popular tourist destinations on the Whale Coast, and the southern most point of Africa, Cape Agulhas. The Overberg offers numerous attractions and activities: from whale watching and wine tasting to water sport, hiking, mountain biking and the special ‘Blue Crane Route’ where you can see these protected birds in their natural habitat.

The coastal route from Cape Town takes you along the False Bay coastline through the small seaside towns of Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond to HERMANUS the ‘Whale Capital’, onto GANSBAAI and Cape Agulhas where the Atlantic and the Indian oceans meet. The route continues to Witsand (the “Whale Nursery” of the world), Stilbaai and inland to the charming country towns of SWELLENDAM, and Heidelberg. The route exits at MOSSELBAY where the Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Diaz chose to find a safe and scenic harbour in 1488. The Diaz Museum is an integral part of the town.
MOSSEL BAY a popular seaside resort and the hub of the Eden Coastal Route is just 1.5km off the N2 – yet could be a million miles away. Enjoy the perfect holiday with sunshine and long stretches of beach within walking distance of the centre of town. For the energetic there is the opportunity of an active fun-filled holiday with a variety of activities such as a ‘Big 4’ game experience, surfing and sailing.
