DESCRIPTION:
Situated just 3 hour's drive from Cape Town, the 36, 000 hectares of De Hoop conservation area forms part of a World Heritage Site characterised by rich biodiversity and rare species of fynbos that lead down to an unspoiled coastline. A 19km vlei, which is a Ramsar site, stretches across the reserve and is home to rich birdlife, including pelicans that breed on its waters each year. The three nautical miles of De Hoop Marine Reserve beyond the shoreline offer some of the best whale viewing in the world, with some 40% of the global Southern Right Whale population coming to the bay each year to breed.
LOCATION:
De Hoop Nature Reserve is located in the Overberg between Arniston and the Breede River Mouth not far from Bredasdorp.
ACCOMMODATION:
The Opstal Manor House provides fully catered accommodation - offers 3 bedrooms en suite. Koppie Alleen with 4 bedrooms is set amongst magnificent fynbos offering privacy and direct access to sandy beaches. Situated on the far side of the vlei is the old-world farm architectural style Melkkamer Manor House characterized by rich sandstone - offers 4 bedrooms self catering.
The other 33 self catering cottages range from very basic rondawels to well-equipped cottages. 10 Camping and 5 Caravan sites.
FACILITIES:
The Fig Tree Restaurant in De Hoop provides all meals, teas and picnic baskets. The Opstal area offers a shop and an option of a Boules courtyard, pool, tennis court and mountain bikes for hire. Wedding and conferences facilities.
